Updates and add-ons
Check your installed version, update Neirose, and understand feature ownership.

Find your installed version
- Open Settings → About & Updates.
- Read the version shown beside Neirose. Include it when reporting a problem.
This manual covers Neirose 1.5.0.0. Use Settings → About & Updates when reporting the installed build.
Check for an update
- In Settings → About & Updates, choose Check now.
- Read the update status. If an update is offered, use Download when available.
- For the Microsoft Store edition, choose Restart to update when you are ready for playback to stop and Neirose to restart. Standalone installer builds offer Install update, described below.
View what’s new opens the release notes in What’s new. Microsoft Store handles delivery for the Store edition; standalone installer builds use the Neirose release feed. The controls shown depend on your edition and the current update state.
If the package installs but the automatic restart does not follow, or the Store install does not finish in time, the status keeps a restart action or a retry available instead of stalling. Restarting Neirose manually finishes the update.
For the Microsoft Store edition, if checking fails, open Microsoft Store, confirm you can access it, and check its Library for app updates. See troubleshooting.
Updates for standalone installer builds
Choose Download installer on the Neirose website to install without Microsoft Store. The installer includes .NET. Standalone builds check the Neirose release feed after startup and every six hours. Checking does not download an installer or stop playback; normal close never installs an update.
- Open Settings → About & Updates and choose Check now, or wait for a background check and the Update available banner.
- When a newer version is available, choose Download. Keep listening while it downloads.
- When ready to stop playback, choose Install update. Neirose checks the downloaded file again, opens the installer, and closes so it can replace the app.
- Complete the installer and launch Neirose. Check the installed version in About & Updates.
The standalone installer is unsigned. Windows may display a security warning or block it under your security policy. Neirose verifies release metadata and downloaded files, but this does not remove Windows security checks. Download only through the official Neirose website.
A failed update check or download does not interrupt playback. If the installer cannot open, Neirose stays running. If you cancel the opened installer, launch your existing Neirose version again. Your local library, playlists, settings, and license keys are preserved by normal upgrades.
Shared output is included. Optional add-ons require a license key in the standalone edition; Microsoft Store purchases are checked by the Store edition. See License keys.
Unlock an optional feature
| Feature | Where to find it | Ownership requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Shared output | Settings → Audio output | Available without the Exclusive mode add-on. |
| Exclusive output | Settings → Audio output → Unlock | Requires the Exclusive mode add-on, from Microsoft Store or a license key. |
| Taskbar widget | Settings → Taskbar widget → Unlock | Requires the Taskbar Widget add-on, from Microsoft Store or a license key, and a build that includes the feature. |
A locked feature shows a lock and a short add-on notice with its Microsoft Store status. Choose Unlock in that notice to open the Microsoft Store purchase flow. Review the Store offer there; prices and availability are not fixed in this manual. Microsoft handles payment and ownership checks.
The feature unlocks as soon as Microsoft Store confirms the purchase. If the Store is still processing it, the notice reads Purchase received and the feature unlocks by itself once the license arrives; you do not need to buy it again.
Redeem a promo code or restore a purchase
- Redeem the code in the Microsoft Store app or at microsoft.com/redeem, signed in with the account you use for Microsoft Store on this PC.
- Return to Neirose. The add-on unlocks when Microsoft Store reports the new license, including while Neirose is already open.
- If it is still locked, open Settings and choose Check again in the add-on notice.
The same steps restore an add-on you bought on another PC: add-ons belong to your Microsoft account, not to one device.
Unlock with a license key
Add-ons are also sold on neirose.app/buy, which emails you a license key. Keys work in Neirose 1.2.0.0 and later, alongside Microsoft Store ownership.
- Open Settings and find the add-on notice of the locked feature: Audio output for Exclusive, Taskbar widget for the widget.
- Choose Have a license key? Enter it, paste the whole key (it starts with
NEIROSE-), and choose Activate. - The feature unlocks right away. Settings → About & Updates shows License key active and what the key unlocks.
Neirose checks keys on your PC without contacting a server, and a key contains no personal information. A key bought for both add-ons unlocks both.
For Neirose 1.5.0.0. Check your installed version.
