Signal processing
Adjust ReplayGain, understand digital volume, and read the current audio stream.

Set ReplayGain loudness normalization
- Open Settings → Signal processing.
- Under Loudness normalization, choose Off, Track, or Album.
- Use Protect tagged peaks from clipping when Track or Album is selected to limit gain using available peak tags.
| Mode | Intended use |
|---|---|
| Off | Use the original level without ReplayGain adjustment. This is the default. |
| Track | Reduce loudness jumps between individual songs using ReplayGain tags. |
| Album | Preserve intended loudness differences within an album using ReplayGain tags. |
Neirose reads existing ReplayGain metadata; selecting a mode does not analyze your library or write tags. Check the displayed ReplayGain detail for the current file, especially when tags are absent.
Peak protection is enabled by default. Its effect depends on the tags available in the file.
Native DSD bypasses ReplayGain and peak protection. An enabled ReplayGain mode is shown as unsupported for that output; control the listening level on the DAC.
Understand digital volume
The Current playback effect section reports ReplayGain and digital-volume status. For PCM, lowering the player volume changes the samples sent onward, including when using Exclusive output.
For native DSD, DAC VOLUME replaces the software percentage. Neirose’s saved PCM volume does not limit the DSD output; use the DAC’s physical volume. See Native DSD.
Use the status shown for the current track to understand which adjustments are active. Output mode, volume, ReplayGain, and format conversion all affect the stream; do not infer an unchanged signal from the word Exclusive alone.
Read signal information
- Start a track so Neirose has an active stream to report.
- Open Settings → Signal processing and expand Technical signal details.
- Compare Source, Output stream, and Device along with the explanatory status.
| Information | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Source | The decoded audio format Neirose reads from the file. |
| Output stream | The actual WASAPI or ASIO stream opened for this playback session. |
| Device | Whether the selected endpoint accepts the reported format. |
For track-specific metadata such as codec, bitrate, sample rate, bit depth, and channels, open the track’s action menu and choose Song information. These values and the signal report describe what Neirose can observe, not every stage inside your hardware.
When playback is gapless
Neirose can join consecutive compatible PCM tracks without reopening the endpoint when their stream formats match. Native DSD tracks and PCM/DSD switches can require reopening the output; uninterrupted DSD transitions are not guaranteed. Changes in rate, channel count, or other required format properties can also interrupt a transition.
Keep the tracks consecutively queued in their intended order when listening to a continuous album. Inspect the Transition status in signal details. Silence encoded into the recording is still part of the recording.
Compatible next sources are prepared before the transition when possible, keeping setup work off the interface while preserving the source timeline. A format change can still require reopening the output device.
For Neirose 1.5.0.0. Check your installed version.
