Playback and queue

Control the current track, arrange what plays next, and understand playback order.

Control the current track

Open Now for the main player. Portrait and Landscape control the same track, queue, and volume, so switching window modes does not start another player.

ControlBehavior
Play / pauseStarts or pauses the selected track. Space also works when a playback shortcut is appropriate for the focused control.
PreviousRestarts the current track when more than four seconds have played; near the start, moves to the previous track when one is available.
NextMoves to the next track allowed by the current playback order.
Seek barSelect or drag to a different position. Left / Right seek five seconds.
VolumeClick the volume track to jump, or press and drag across it for continuous adjustment. You can also scroll over the volume control. Scrolling a library or lyrics list scrolls its content.
Now Playing in Landscape. The lyrics pane shares the same playback session as the player.

Manage the queue

  1. Open Queue to see the current session. Use Add files or Add folder to add music for playback.
  2. From a track’s action menu, choose Play next to place it after the current track, or Add to queue to append it.
  3. Drag queue entries to adjust the order. Release to keep the move, or press Escape during the drag to cancel.
  4. Use a track’s remove control to remove its queue entry. This does not delete the music file.

Play all from a playlist, album, or artist replaces the queue and starts that collection. Add all appends files that are not already queued. Adding tracks is distinct from starting playback. Starting a collection keeps the current song audible until the first selected track is ready, and the player keeps showing the playing state during that switch.

Change playback order

Use the Playback order control in the player or Queue. Each click cycles through Off → Shuffle → Repeat queue → Repeat one → Off. These are alternatives on one control.

ModeWhat happens
OffPlays the queue in order and stops at its end.
ShuffleChooses a shuffled upcoming order. Previous can return through the shuffle history.
Repeat queuePlays in queue order and returns to the beginning at the end.
Repeat oneRepeats the current track when it finishes. Next can still move to another queued track.

Resume and move between tracks

Neirose saves the queue, playback settings, and current position locally. Restoring a position depends on the original file still being accessible. Press play when you are ready to continue.

Consecutive tracks can transition gaplessly when their audio stream formats match. A format change can require reopening the output device. See Signal processing for the conditions.

Closing the main window can leave Neirose running in the notification area. Use the notification-area menu’s exit action when you want to stop the application completely.

For Neirose 1.5.0.0. Check your installed version.
