Where lyrics come from#

Neirose checks local lyrics first, in this order:

• A readable .lrc file with the same base filename beside the music file, such as Song.flac and Song.lrc.
• Synchronized ID3v2 lyrics embedded in the audio file.
• Embedded plain-text or LRC-formatted lyrics.

If no usable local lyrics are found, Neirose checks its private lyrics cache. An online LRCLIB lookup is allowed only when Online lyrics is enabled. Timed local lyrics are always used as they are. Untimed local lyrics give way to timed lyrics from the cache or LRCLIB when those exist, and stay otherwise.

1. To permit online lookup, open Settings → About & Updates.
2. Under Privacy & online services, enable Online lyrics.
3. Return to Now and play the track. When local lyrics are unavailable or untimed, Neirose can look up its title, artist, album, and duration through LRCLIB.

Read and follow synchronized lyrics#

1. In Portrait, choose the Lyrics row in Now Playing to open the focused Lyrics screen. In Landscape, lyrics are beside the player.
2. For synchronized lyrics, select a timed line to seek to its position in the song.
3. Scroll to read ahead or revisit a line. Manual scrolling pauses automatic following.
4. Choose Return to current line to follow playback again. In Portrait, use Escape to return to the player.

Plain-text lyrics have no timestamps, so they cannot follow the song line by line or provide timed seeking. When synchronized lyrics mark an instrumental break with an empty timed line, no line is highlighted until the next one begins.

When two lyric lines share a timestamp, such as an original line and its romanization, both highlight during that line. The taskbar widget highlights the pair together as well.

Switch between words and lines#

When lyrics contain supported word timestamps, Neirose can highlight words as the song plays. Use Show lines to display whole lines instead, or Show words to return to word-by-word highlighting.

The switch appears only when word-synchronized lyrics are available. Neirose reads timing supplied by the lyrics source; it does not generate word timestamps for plain or line-timed lyrics.

Caching and privacy#

Fetched lyrics and not-found results are cached under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Neirose\lyrics. Neirose does not write fetched lyrics beside your music files.

Online lookup sends track metadata to LRCLIB. See Privacy and local data and the Privacy Policy for the services involved. A lyrics error does not stop audio playback.

Missing lyrics and current limits#

Check the local filename and tags when lyrics are missing or incorrect. For online results, verify that Online lyrics is enabled and the connection is available. A not-found result can be cached; repeatedly opening the screen does not guarantee a new match.

Neirose does not edit or translate lyrics, generate word-level karaoke timing, write sidecar files, or publish lyrics. Synchronization and availability depend on the local source or provider result.
